Hi, I’m Ellen!

Mom of two boys, book-lover, recovering reluctant reader—and a certified Elite Reading Coach with a B.S. in Elementary Education.

If you’ve ever looked at your child and thought, Why do they hate reading so much?!—you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place!

Maybe your child can read but won’t—or wants to read but struggles. Either way, you’re exhausted from the nightly battles and just want reading to feel easy instead of stressful.

I get it—because I’ve been in your shoes.

Not only am I raising two book-loving boys (who didn’t always love books), but I was a reluctant reader myself. I know exactly what it feels like when reading feels like work instead of fun. And I also know what it takes to flip the script and make reading something kids actually want to do.

That’s why I created Engaging Reluctant Readers—to give moms like you practical, real-life strategies to make reading easier, more enjoyable, and way less frustrating.

Why I Do This

Reading wasn’t always a struggle for me. When I was little, I loved books. But as I got older, assigned reading took the fun out of it, and slowly, I stopped seeing the point of reading for enjoyment.

For years, I thought I just wasn’t a reader.

It wasn’t until I became a mom and started reading to my kids that everything changed. I saw firsthand how books shaped their world, how reading was so much more than just a school skill, and how the right books at the right time could make all the difference.

That’s when I knew: if I wanted my kids to love reading, it had to start with me.

Now, I help other moms bridge the gap between their love for books and their child’s reading struggles—because I know both sides of the story.

What I Believe About Raising Readers:

  • 📖Small wins matter. Tiny shifts build lifelong reading habits. It’s not about doing more—it’s about finding what works.
  • 📚All reading counts. Audiobooks, graphic novels, recipes, magazines, it doesn’t matter—reading is reading!
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Reading brings families together. Whether you have hours or minutes, I’ll show you how to fit reading into your day in ways that feel natural.
  • 💜You’re not failing. If reading feels hard, it’s not because you’ve done something wrong. You just need the right tools—and I’m here to help.
  • 🎉Reading should never feel like homework. I’ll help you make reading playful, pressure-free, and fun.
